Using log diffs to identify the cause of errors

You may have noticed when reviewing your logs on the dashboard that we collate similar logs. Each instance in the collated group is viewable once you click through to look at the log details. We tag each instance to let you know if it is different to the currently viewed instance. We also apply tags to the current and first instance in the group. These tags are useful for getting an overview of the group without the need to inspect each instance.

People tend to regard Stack Overflow as a site where people copy+paste code. Well, that's true to a degree, but it's also a fantastic resource for understanding the developer community! Each year, Stack Overflow conducts a survey of developers, 64000 of them in 2017, to gain insights into the community. We notice each year that the most popular languages change, so we're basing our roadmap on this change.

How ErrLog.IO tracks bugs, and what information we store

Sep 22, 2017
ErrLog.IO is a very simple system - we collect errors and exceptions directly from your application. No Agents. No Server Installations. Just a few lines of code. In order to collect errors and exceptions, a .Net or JavaScript library is included in your project and initialized. This project captures errors as they happen, bundles as much information as we can collect into a package, and sends it to the closest ErrLog.IO service. We currently have four collection points located in various Microsoft Azure regions (see here), which processes logs, aggregates them and sends them back to our Data Centre for storage.
